Animal Rights and Welfare

Torch Initiative connects animal rights with plant-based advocacy, rooted in African traditions of compassion, health, and sustainable living.

Our traditional diets were largely plant-based, and many communities valued animals as part of the natural world. Today, factory farming threatens animals, the environment, and our cultural food systems. By reviving indigenous plant-based diets and promoting animal welfare, we protect both people and the planet.

We create awareness on the link between animal welfare, human health, and plant-based diets, while influencing local conversations to reduce factory farming and promote animal-friendly practices. Through partnerships with schools, women’s groups, youth networks, and sanctuaries such as the Niki Cat Sanctuary in Watamu, we demonstrate compassion in action and strengthen advocacy rooted in African values.

We are promoting a compassionate Africa by encouraging restoring compassion, reviving traditions, and through our community engagement, promoting  a thriving future where animals and humans live together for  ecosystem balance .
