Thrive Africa Vegan Restaurant Week 2025
From capital cities to coastal communities, Africa’s plant-based movement is growing.
From 24th–30th November 2025, we participated in the Thrive Africa Vegan Restaurant Week, held in Nairobi and Kilifi County. Nairobi, as Kenya’s capital, served as an urban launch point and a key transmitter of food culture and consumer trends to other regions.
In Kilifi, activities culminated at The Vegan Basket, with Torch Initiatives contributing to efforts that spotlighted Jelel Konga, founder of Kenya’s first African-themed, 100% plant-based restaurant.
In the comments, Jelel shared:
“Thank you, Torch, for lighting the torch. My plant-based cooking skills are now reaching more people, attracting new customers, and showing that African plant-based cuisine can thrive.
💚 We are grateful to Thrive Philanthropy for making this work possible and for your continued support in advancing healthy, sustainable, plant-based solutions across Africa. With continued support, we can scale this impact and meet the growing demand for plant-based solutions across Africa.
